The Telangana assembly elections have assumed immense significance for all political parties, with a fierce battle expected between the ruling BRS and the principal opposition Congress. This has led to an intensified campaign in the state. Parties and leaders are meticulously analyzing the vote bank and devising strategies. When examining the state region-wise, it becomes evident that Northern Telangana lags significantly behind.
Several crucial districts in this region are still underdeveloped. These districts have a substantial population of SCs, STs, and Adivasis, whose votes play a pivotal role in upcoming elections. However, development, job opportunities, and employment prospects are severely lacking in these areas. As a result, people in Northern Telangana continue to face stagnation. The region includes districts such as Adilabad, Komarabhim Asifabad, Nirmal, Manchiryala, Nizamabad, Jagityala, Peddapally, Kamareddy, Rajanna Sirisilla, and Karimnagar.
Among these districts, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, and Manchiryala have seen gradual development, while the rest struggle with issues like the lack of access to drinking water and inadequate implementation of government schemes. The leaders, who once had strong connections with the people, now appear distant and fatigued, as evidenced by the recent underwhelming response to a BRS leaders’ meeting in the region.
Even leaders from the ruling BRS party are finding it challenging to ignite enthusiasm among the local population. Although people may listen to their speeches, there is a general indifference towards political rhetoric. The situation for the Congress party in the region appears no different.
However, those who desire change are actively seeking alternatives, and observers suggest that if the ruling party claims to have made a difference in the lives of the Adivasis, their meetings in Northern Telangana indicate otherwise, and they may face a difficult battle in the upcoming elections.
