Andhra politics than Telangana politics. Pawan’s open support for the BJP and their joint participation in elections are expected to cause damage to the TDP and Janasena alliance in AP.
The friendship with the BJP may have political ramifications in AP. For both the TDP and Janasena, AP is of utmost importance rather than Telangana. Pawan seems to be considerate about his personal image and bond with Modi; however, this may affect his party’s prospects in AP.
Though not officially declared, the TDP and its cadre are supporting the Congress in Telangana. This is why the TDP even avoided contesting the elections. There is a strong buzz that several Andhra settlers in Hyderabad and Khammam are favoring the Congress.
This public sentiment is also not favorable for Pawan and the BJP duo. Pawan announced 8 candidates in Telangana so far. It is not clear whether Pawan and Janasena would bag one seat in Telangana given the tough fight between ruling BRS and opposition Congress. If Janasena fails to win 1 seat, it is also likely to have an impact politically on Janasena in AP as it comes as a shot in the arm for YSRCP.
Now that Janasena supports the BJP in Telangana, political analysts are concerned about the impact on the TDP-Janasena alliance in AP. The growing bonhomie with the BJP may affect Janasena and, in turn, the TDP in AP politics. The BJP is insignificant in AP and also has a lot of negativity considering that it offered a raw deal to AP in the last 10 years under Modi’s rule.
Additionally, issues like Special Category Status and impending works of state bifurcation still remain pending and are considered significant sentiments among the public of Andhra Pradesh. There is also a widespread perception that the BJP could be behind Chandrababu’s arrest. All these factors are expected to cause damage to TDP-Janasena politically.
