In the midst of the fervor surrounding the Telangana assembly elections, another disturbing incident unfolded as an MLA was targeted in a stone attack, resulting in severe injuries. The wounded MLA was initially taken to the district hospital and subsequently transferred to Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad. Party members reported extensive damage to the MLA’s vehicle during the altercation, further escalating the already tense atmosphere between the ruling party and the opposition.
Here’s what happened:
MLA Guvvala Balaraju, representing the Acchampet Constituency in Nagarkarnool District, secured a ticket for the Telangana Assembly Elections. As a result, he intensified his campaign efforts within his constituency, tirelessly working late into Saturday night. However, tensions flared when Vamsikrishna, contesting on behalf of the Congress, accused Guvvala of distributing money during his campaign and alleged that money was stashed in his car.
Consequently, some supporters of Vamsi Krishna blocked Guvvala’s car on the campaign trail, insisting on inspecting it. This action led to a heated confrontation between the Congress and BRS factions, erupting into a physical altercation. In the course of this clash, both sides resorted to throwing stones at each other, causing significant damage to Guvvala’s vehicle.
Furthermore, MLA Guvvala sustained severe injuries in the stone attack, prompting his immediate transport to the local district hospital, where he received initial medical care. Subsequently, he was moved to Hyderabad for more comprehensive treatment. Observers have noted that while verbal skirmishes between BRS and Congress have been ongoing against the backdrop of the elections, resorting to physical violence is likely to further exacerbate tensions.
