The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has made startling comments. ICMR has revealed the Second sero-survey and the key findings of the sero-survey are raising alarm bells. Every 15th person in India was exposed to Corona Virus by August, estimated the Second sero-survey. This is about the people who are aged above 10 years.
The second sero-survey was conducted between August 17 and September 22nd in about 700 villages, while the first survey covered urban wards. As per the survey, 7.1 percent of adults have been exposed to Covid-19. This is a big hike from the 0.73 percent logged in the first survey in May. The survey also indicated that still a large population is vulnerable and susceptible to Corona Virus infection.
ICMR Director General Balram Bhargava said the survey found that urban slum and urban non-slum areas had higher SARS-CoV2 infection prevalence than that of rural areas. According to him, the Covid risk in urban slums is twice than urban non-slum areas and quadruple to rural areas.
ICMR has asked people to be more cautious in the wake of the rapid hike of Covid cases. It strongly cautioned that festive season, mass gatherings and winter season could be prone to Covid spread. ICMR asked the States to come up with new containment strategies to stop the spread.
