In a significant blow to the ruling BRS, Alampur MLA Dr. Abraham parted ways with the party and joined the Congress in the presence of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief Revanth Reddy. This move comes as a shock to the BRS, especially as Chief Minister KCR had previously announced that sitting MLAs would be given tickets for the upcoming elections.
Despite assurances, Dr. Abraham faced disappointment when Challa Venkataramireddy, a recent entrant from the Congress and now an MLC, not only objected to get the B Form to Abraham, but also secured the ticket for Vijayu, his personal assistant. This turn of events left Dr. Abraham disheartened, leading to his decision to switch allegiance.
The MLA, who had already campaigned extensively in his constituency, made waves by declaring his predicament and inability to make political decisions except to remain silent just a day before the nomination process. Despite attempts by key leaders, he did not attend Chief Minister KCR’s meeting in Alampur.
Frustrated with the treatment he received and the leadership’s decision, Dr. Abraham, along with former MLAs Sampath Kumar and Kothakota Prakash Reddy, joined the Congress party in Hyderabad on Friday. This move reflects the growing discontent and defections within the BRS, with several public representatives and leaders expressing dissatisfaction and switching sides.
