The thumping victory of the Congress in Telangana had an impact on the political landscape in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who is determined to make a clean sweep with the slogan ‘Why Not 175/175’ is likely to deny tickets to many of the sitting MLAs for the 2024 Assembly elections.
Having seen the disaster anti-incumbency could spell to political parties in Telangana polls, Jagan Mohan Reddy has reportedly decided to be cautious in making the choice of candidates.
The BRS had retained the candidature of many sitting MLAs but faced defeat in the elections.
Probably, learning a lesson from this, Jagan is likely to drop around 50-60 YCP incumbents, apart from 6-7 ministers.
It is learnt that Jagan has information that there are negative reports from the ground-level against some MLAs and ministers too, following the ‘Gadapa Gadapaku Mana Prabhutvam’ programme launched a year ago.
Jagan Mohan Reddy is also relying on the I-PAC in measuring people’s feedback apart from Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy’s survey organisation.
It is learnt that CM secretary Iragavarapu Avinash is busy involved in analysing the survey and intelligence reports on people’s feedback.
Reprotedly, Jagan Mohan Reddy is firm to place his stakes only on the winning horses. There are chances for the final list of the MLAs to be dropped to be out by December end.
In case, the incumbents are not likely to be allocated the party ticket, new leaders would be identified to take up the campaigning in the constituencies.
