As the Telangana Assembly elections concluded and a new government has been formed under Revanth Reddy’s leadership, all eyes are now on Andhra Pradesh. AP Assembly elections are a few months away and are going to be held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha polls. Times Now – ETG Research has come up with a pre-poll survey for AP.
According to the survey, the ruling YSRCP is going to clean sweep if the elections are held now. It said that YCP would bag between 24 to 25 seats out of the total 25 seats. It said the opposition TDP may win zero to 1 seat. Interestingly, the survey’s voting share is a bit tricky.
As per the survey, YSRCP’s vote share is predicted at 50 percent whereas TDP’s vote share will be 37 percent. It further said Janasena vote share will be 10 percent and NDA (BJP) vote share will be around 1 percent. Based on these, the survey predicted that the YSRCP would bag 24 to 25 seats. However, it is already known that TDP and Janasena are in alliance. So, if the two contest together, their combined vote share will be at around 47 percent and if BJP too joins them, it is about 48 percent. It can be noted that Janasena and BJP have contested together in Telangana and Janasena is part of the NDA. Pawan is confident of BJP joining them and openly stated the same.
This indicates that there will be only 2 percent difference between the YSRCP (if contests alone) and TDP-Janasena-BJP combine. As there is few more months away, slight swing on either side could change the results substantially. On the whole, Times Now – ETG survey gives clear mandate for YSRCP now. This gives them the reason to cheer. On the other hand, opposition TDP needs to come up with a fool-proof poll strategy.
