The slew of changes in the YCP is putting the party leaders on tenterhooks in Prakasam district. In 2019, YCP candidates had won from all the constituencies in the district except three – where the TDP men emerged victorious. Karanam Balarama Krishnamurthy from Chirala, Gottipati Ravi from Addanki, Dola Bala Veeranjaneyaswamy from Kondapi are the TDP MLAs in the district.
However, Balaram later switched loyalty to the YCP. Now, the YCP has made drastic changes in the district. None of the sitting MLAs have been retained in their positions. A couple of them have also been denied tickets and inducted for party operational works.
Let us take a look at the alleged changes
Minister Adimulapu Suresh, who has been representing Erragondapalem, has been shifted to Kondapi.
YCP Kondapi in-charge Varikuti Ashokbabu has been shifted to Vemuru in Bapatla district.
Minister Merugu Nagarjuna, who won from Vemuru, was shifted to Santanutalapadu in Prakasam district
Former minister Sidda Raghava Rao, Giddalur MLA Anna Rambabu, Chirala MLA Balarama Krishnamurthy would be moved to other constituencies.
Balineni Srinivasa Reddy, a relative of CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, stationed in the Ongole constituency, will also be moved to Giddalur. Karanam is likely to replace Balineni.
Balineni reportedly met YCP regional coordinator and MP Vijayasai Reddy and urged him not to shift him from Ongole constituency.
There is buzz that MP Magunta Srinivasula Reddy will contest as an MLA in the upcoming elections.
Coming to the reasons behind the major changes in the district, it was learnt that many of the sitting MLAs have been facing corruption charges, apart from internal squabbles in the party. MLAs of Santanutalapadu, Darsi, Markapuram, Kanigiri, Ongole are facing corruption charges.
In Santanutalapadu, one of the party’s group raised a rebellion against Giddalur sitting MLA belonging to the Reddy community.
