CBI former joint director VV Lakshminarayana’s announcement to float a new political party, Jai Bharat National Party, has raised several doubts over how far this outfit can bring about the desired change in the state politics.
Announcing about the party, Lakshminarayana said that his party is one that is not set up but that which has born. Earlier, VV said that he would contest as an independent candidate but recently, he began sending leaks that he would launch his own party and now, it is a reality.
Now, let us understand which sections of the society would the party lure and also the vote share it would secure.
As per VV’s announcement, his party would contest from all constituencies in the state. But in reality, even major parties are facing shortage of candidates.
Moreover, VV had announced that the main purpose of his party is corruption-free and partisan-free governance. Considering all these factors, political observers reminded about Lok Satta party which was floated with lofty ideals but was soon forced to shut shop, in the past.
With regard to the candidates, VV might face a lot of trouble because finding an individual with the qualities desired by him is itself a challenging task. Even if there is one, with the increasing expenditure in politics, finding 175 candidates to suit people’s hopes and aspirations is nearly impossible. At best, VV could find 10-20 candidates fulfilling these requirements.
Another vital issue is creating awareness about the party’s ideology among the public. The party candidates will be able to secure their deposits only if they can influence the neutral voters. Now, will the remaining 60 days be sufficient to accomplish this task?
Further, the voters are divided on caste lines and identifying their needs and trying to convince them in these areas is another major challenge, in every constituency. What will VV do to pacify them?
One another area which all political parties have been focusing on is employment generation for the youth. How far will VV be successful in fulfilling the promise he had made in this direction? Will his party candidates be able to influence the voters in the rural areas?
Given the short duration before the elections, will Lakshminarayana be successful in emerging at least as a significant player in politics is a million dollar question. Time alone can clear the haze surrounding these queries.
