In last term’s assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, TDP had a few miscalculations and one of them was giving multiple MLA and MP tickets to individuals from a single family. But this time, Chandra Babu is not ready to repeat this mistake and he is instead doing ‘family planning’ in TDP.
Chandra Babu apparently spoke about the MLA ticket allocation procedure with TDP seniors and clearly mentioned that the party won’t give more than 1 MLA/MP ticket to a family.
In that case, big political families like Paritala, Kotla, and others will be in a spot of bother. Chandra Babu has reportedly left it to the families of multiple aspirants to decide which one of them wants MLA/MP tickets.
Last time, Paritala Sunitha got Rapthadu ticket and her son Sriram got Dharmavaram ticket and both of them lost the election. Only one of them will be getting the ticket this time and it is up to them to decide who it will be, reportedly. Another veteran KE Krishnamurthy from Dhone constituency is also informed that only he or his son will be given the MLA ticket in 2024.
Reddappagari family in Kadapa has also been intimated to pick one ticket. R Srinivas Reddy is expecting Kadapa MP ticket and his brother Ramesh Kumar Reddy is expecting Rayachoti MLA ticket. But only one of them will be given an MLA ticket in Kadapa.
Kotla Suryaprakash Reddy contested as Kurnool MP while his wife Sujatha contested from Aluru. Both of them lost in 2019. Only one of them will be given the ticket of their choice in 2024. There are many other cases, including the JC family in Anantapur where only JC Asmith or JC Pavan will be given the ticket.
The only exceptions in this case are Chandra Babu himself and Nara Lokesh, and also the late Yerranaidu’s family. Atchannaidu and Ram Mohan Naidu will both be given the tickets in TDP this term. This is a conscious effort from Chandra Babu to showcase TDP as a party that values hardworking leaders over family politics.
