AICC leader and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi had an unusual tryst with a daily wager who makes a livelihood shifting coal blocks on a bicycle and selling them in the market. As part of Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, Rahul is in Jharkhand and on way to neighbouring Odisha when he saw a cyclist beside the NH with a huge load of coal blocks tied to it.
Immediately, Rahul Gandhi stopped the cyclist and enquired him about what were the big blocks and what would be done with them. On knowing about how the youth would have to travel nearly 30-40 km away from the place and the meager sum of money he would earn by selling them, Gandhi felt that the government should do justice to such marginalized section of the society.
Rahul also tried his hand in pulling the bicycle with the load on the road and felt that the meager earning the youth earned through selling the blocks is real injustice. Though the youth plays a role in building Bharat, his services are not being duly recognized by the nation, Rahul said.
The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra is aimed at understanding the hardships of the people who struggle to make ends meet, listen to their misery and ensure justice to them.
Gandhi’s yatra will pass through Sundargarh, Rourkela, and Jharsuguda, before leaving Odisha for Chhattisgarh.
On Feb. 7, Gandhi will hold a roadshow in Rourkela, Gadagaon and Uttara. He will have a night halt in Jharsuguda on February 7.
Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ started in Manipur on January 14 and is scheduled to cover 6,713 km in 67 days, passing through 110 districts in 15 states. The yatra would culminate in Mumbai on March 20.
