In a shocking update, 36 more cases of HIV positive were found in Lucknow Central jail among the prisoners. With already tested positive HIV cases 27, now the new number is 63!
This alarming number of cases shocked not just the jail officials but also the state government which is now preparing for the election campaign.
It all started when one inmate died in a suspicious way in September and the postmortem revealed that he died due to AIDS. The jail officials reportedly kept the news hidden and conducted tests for other prisoners only to know there were 27 more cases of HIV Positive. The infected were sent to the hospital for treatment and the tests were stopped due to lack of testing kits.
In the second phase of testing, 36 more cases were reported leaving the total at 63. The jail officials’ reason for the huge number of HIV cases being registered is strange. They are reportedly arguing that the prisoners were infected before they were sent to jail and they alleged the use of sharing the syringes. The doctors’ version is in contrast with that, as they say, that one can get infected with lung, kidney, and liver-related diseases if they were addicted to drugs and cigarettes, but definitely not HIV.
A BJP leader reportedly commented that there were no deaths reported even though the number of HIV-infected cases is unusually high.
