YS Sharmila has returned to Andhra Pradesh after a week’s gap and she spoke with the media at Vijayawada airport today. In her conversation, she brought up the topic of her safety and security while leading the electoral campaign in AP.
Sharmila revealed that the YCP government isn’t providing her with the necessary security. ‘I am AP Congress president and opposition leader. I asked for heightened security from the government but they haven’t accorded it to me yet. Maybe they want something to happen to me. Is this the way you secure the opposition leaders in Andhra Pradesh?’ Sharmila remarked in the media interaction.
Sharmila further alleged that the government itself could be entertaining anti-social elements to attack her. She made a very serious allegation about her safety and linked it to the take-it-easy attitude of the YCP government. She went on to question “You stay in big palaces in secured environments, but what about the democratic need to safeguard the opposition leaders?”.
