Union Home Minister Amit Shah indirectly hinted at an alliance with the TDP for the upcoming Parliamentary elections. Shah said that family planning could be good for a family but when it comes to politics, the bigger the coalition, the better.
He also said that new friends would enter the NDA. At the same time, he said that the alliances in Andhra Pradesh would also be finalised. However, he said that he could not reveal anything about the alliance immediately.
It is significant to note that Chandrababu Naidu had visited Delhi just four days ago to express his party’s readiness to allign with the BJP.
During his visit, he reportedly met Shah and other BJP top brass secretly to discuss about the alliance and seat sharing formula. News reports about these meetings were widely covered in national news media.
There has been no news about the TDP-BJP alliance since then but Shah’s remarks imply that the national party is mentally prepared to invite the TDP into the BJP-led NDA.
Shah said that they have decided to strengthen the NDA at the grassroots-level. “We have decided to clinch 400 seats this time and prove the NDA’s might again.”
“To achieve this, we would proceed with all those who approach us. Even our friends in AP approached us but the complete information regarding this is yet to be out.”
Shah said they were ready to roll out a red carpet to all those wanting to forge an alliance with them.
Some people have deserted us even when we did not want to lose them, he said and added that talks were underway with Akali Dal in Punjab.
