It was mentioned in the United Andhra Pradesh bifurcation regulations that Hyderabad will continue as the joint capital of AP and Telangana for 10 years. This 10-year period is coming to an end this June. To the surprise of everyone, the YSR Congress has started proclaiming that Hyderabad should continue as the joint capital till Vizag becomes the fully functional capital of AP.
YSR Congress spokesperson and the new Rajya Sabha candidate of the party, YV Subba Reddy has presented the statement that Hyderabad should be continued as the united capital of Andhra and Telangana till Vizag is fully developed.
Subba Reddy said he would reinstate this statement in the Rajya Sabha and fight for Hyderabad to be continued as the united capital of the Telugu states.
Coming to the established method of operation, the Andhra Pradesh government was never committed to the joint capital proposition. The TDP government designated Amaravati as the capital and the YSRC government set out to develop Vizag as the executive capital. After this mulling for 10 years, going back to Hyderabad as the joint capital with the regulated 10-year tenure coming to an end in under 4 months doesn’t look legally or political binding, remarked a seasoned political analyst.
