Not many Indian politicians can boast of the kind of experience Chandrababu Naidu had in regional and national politics as he has been around for over 4 decades. But those who have closely observed him over the years have one complaint about him and that is he delays his political decisions and iterates every decision to make sure it is perfect to the t. He never wants to lose anyone and likes to keep every avenue open and at times, he prioritizes simple decisions over more appropriate ones.
If we have a look at the ongoing Rajyasabha election campaign in AP, we can see Chandrababu’s efforts to contest one of the three vacant RS MP seats. Numbers-wise, 44 MLAs are needed to win an RS nomination. TDP, on the primary count, has 22 seats after the speaker approved Ganta Srinivas’s resignation. So there is no logical way TDP can win the nomination while YCP is determined to win all three seats and has even announced their candidates.
But instead of letting go of these RS polls which are approaching quickly, Naidu is not comprehending that TDP doesn’t have the numbers to pull off a miraculous win. He is reportedly working on finalizing a candidate for the Rajya Sabha seat and devising a plan to win this seat. At a time when TDP should be leaving this Rajya Sabha nomination process and working round the clock on the most important assembly elections, Naidu seems to have his focus elsewhere.
CWinning or losing the Rajya Sabha nomination doesn’t make any difference for TDP as the real priority is winning the assembly elections. For that to happen, Naidu must change his habit of contemplating every decision again and again, in this case, the RS nomination, and pounce fully on the assembly polls strategies.
