Alliances between political parties are proving to be a necessary evil during the elections.
This seems to be true when we consider the alliance between the TDP, Jana Sena and BJP. The BJP’s sudden entry into the coalition is leaving the TDP cadre desperate with many of the constituencies in which they had put in efforts and worked with commitment gradually drifting away to the purview of the other parties.
The entry of the BJP into the coalition in the last minute had made the deliberations between the TDP and Jana Sena obsolete.
Now, all the three parties have locked horns over two constituencies in YCP boss and Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s native Kadapa district. Rajampet and Jammalamadugu constituencies in Kadapa district have become the bone of contention among the three parties.
When the TDP decided to contest the upcoming Assembly elections alone, party supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu had searched for strong candidates for all the 10 constituencies in Kadapa district. He was in constant touch with the regular and former leaders of the party.
However, after deciding to go with the Jana Sena, the JS leaders demanded that they would contest from Rajampet, even while the TDP leaders had done all the groundwork to win in the constituency. Talks over the allocation of Rajampet constituency remained inconclusive.
The BJP’s entry into the TDP-JS coalition at the last minute has led to more confusion among the cadres of the three parties.
Now, the BJP is demanding the Jammalamadugu constituency should be allocated to it.
With two crucial constituencies likely to be taken away from their hold, the TDP cadre is dissatisfied.
In the last five years, the TDP cadre had invested both their money and energy into these constituencies and set things right, the demand from other parties over allocation of the tickets to their leaders has left the TDP cadre in frustration.
With the TDP-Jana Sena-BJP in a coalition, the TDP leaders will have to strive for the victory from both Rajampet and Jammalamadugu constituencies, irrespective of the candidate to whom they would be allocated.
