Telangana’s opposition, BRS, received a significant blow as four key leaders defected to the BJP during the parliamentary elections.
Former MLAs Saidireddy and Jalagam Venkatarao, along with former MPs Godam Nagesh and Sitaram Naik, joined the BJP. BJP state in-charge Tarun Chugh and Laxman welcomed them by donning the party scarf. Notably, there has been no response from KCR, KTR, or Harish Rao, despite prior knowledge of the potential party switches.
Saidireddy, a crucial figure in BRS who recently won the Hujurnagar by-election, was notably close to KTR. His decision to switch parties came without any intervention or assurance from KTR, indicating a significant shift.
Jalagam Venkatarao, a prominent leader in Khammam district, won the 2018 assembly election under the BRS banner but was denied a ticket in the subsequent elections, leading to his dissatisfaction with the party. With his switch to the BJP, he expressed his discontent and hinted at potential future defections from BRS to the BJP.
MP Laxman, speaking on the occasion of BRS leaders joining the BJP, declared that the party’s influence in Telangana is waning. He expressed confidence in the BJP’s ability to win more parliamentary seats in the state and praised the Modi government for its untarnished track record.
