The Election Commission of India announced the schedule for the impending Andhra Pradesh assembly and general election. As we reported some time back, the polling is on May 13th while the counting is on June 4th.
Along with the important election schedule, the Election Commission has announced the maximum monetary expenditures an MLA and MP candidate can legally have in his/her election campaign.
The legal limit of expenditure for an MLA is locked at Rs 38 lakh while an MP can spend up to Rs 90 lakh.
These are the legalized limits set by the Election Commission, but if we take a look at the numbers historically, the actual expenditures of an MLA and MP candidate are virtually limitless.
However, the EC has warned of serious and timely legal consequences in case these rules and regulations are flouted by the candidates. The EC has asked candidates to refrain from making personal and derogatory comments against their opponents. The candidates are strictly mandated not to use under 18 kids for their campaigns.
