Back in 2014, the current Andhra Pradesh BJP wing president Daggubati Purandeswari had a failed campaign in the Rajampet Lok Sabha constituency. She lost by a big margin to YCP’s Peddireddy Midhun Reddy, who later became a trusted right-hand of Jagan Mohan Reddy. The equation was very simple for Midhun in 2019 as he easily beat TDP’s Satyaprabha in the Lok Sabha polls.
Cut to 2024, the TDP-BJP-JSP alliance is back in action and this time, there is anticipation on who will contest against Midhun Reddy in Rajampet. As it looks, the alliance is nearly confirmed to field ex-CM of united AP, Kiran Kumar Reddy against Midhun Reddy.
Kiran Kumar Reddy joined BJP after the 2019 AP elections and he is known for having fairly potent financial resources at his disposal. So, he has emerged as the go-to choice for the alliance in the Rajampet segment, where BJP and TDP had failed campaigns in 2014 and 19. Being a Rayalaseema Reddy himself, and having served as the ex-CM of AP, Kiran Kumar Reddy is seen as a worthy candidate against Midhun.
Midhun is projected as the right-hand man for Jagan Mohan Reddy and he is doubling up as a troubleshooter in YCP, so if the alliance can manage to defeat him in Rajampet, it could serve as a big jolt to Jagan’s camp. So, the alliance is of the collective opinion that Kiran is the man for the job.
Rajampet was always anticipated to be one of the MP seats that BJP would secure and it is likely to turn to reality as Kiran Kumar Reddy is nearly confirmed to come up against Midhun here.
