The final leg of seat distribution between TDP, JSP, and BJP is nearing completion and there is one last major hiccup to deal with for the three parties. The conflict in question here is rising in the Anaparthi constituency which was earlier announced for TDP and later hijacked by BJP. As a result of this decision to leave the seat to BJP, local TDP leader Nallamilli Ramakrishna Reddy is enraged and he is at a crossroads with both TDP and BJP.
TDP earlier announced Nallamilli as its Anaparthi candidate but after the formation of the alliance, BJP grabbed the seat and announced Shiva Rama Krishna Raju as its candidate. Enraged by this, Nallamilli started a rebellion as he contemplated alternative options.
But Nallamilli’s rage doesn’t just affect TDP but it also works against BJP. Being an established leader in Anaparthi, Ramakrishna is a substantial force locally. Without his support, the BJP candidate can’t even put up a fight and YCP candidate Surynarayana Reddy’s victory is only a formality as he already won from here in 2019. So YCP cadres are already celebrating the alliance’s decision to sideline Nallamilli and give the seat to BJP which will make their job that much easier.
It doesn’t stop at that, without Nallamilli’s support in Anaparthy, winning the Rajahmundry seat is also going to be a tough proposition. With AP BJP president Purandeswari, herself contesting as Rajahmundry MP, losing a key constituency like Anaparthy is a debacle as it could seriously dent her poll prospects. So, Nallamilli’s dissent is more damaging for BJP than it is for TDP.
Reportedly, Chandrababu Naidu is trying to pacify Nallamilli and has called for a meeting. However, the senior leader is not accepting the proposal and is silently leading a rebellion.
The Nallamilli family has been with TDP for 4 decades with Ramakrishna’s father Moola Reddy winning Anaparthy 4 times in his tenure. BJP is reportedly considering the idea of bringing Ramakrishna Reddy into BJP and making him contest Anaparthy but the Nallamilli family leaving TDP is nearly impossible. It remains to be seen how TDP and more importantly, BJP leadership deals with the situation.
