The Election Commission of India has clearly regulated the registered political parties and their leaders to maintain rationality while delivering electoral speeches. The EC advised politicians to verify the hard facts before making allegations against their opponents, or else, there will be legal consequences.
This regulation might bring AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy under the EC radar as Chinnamma, AP BJP president Daggubati Purandeswari complained against him to the EC chief MK Meena.
In her letter to EC, Purandeswari wrote “Being a party president, and the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Jagan broke the regulations set by EC to make false allegations against me. In his public meeting in Produttur on March 27th, he said the Vizag drug bust involves Sandhya Aqua Exports and claimed that the men behind the company are my family members. Linking me with this drug bust is a blatant lie and I have sent a legal notice to Jagan about this. I am now urging the EC to take action against the CM on disciplinary grounds.”
Purandeswari wrote that Jagan built up a fabricated narrative using the Vizag drug bust and linking it to her family members just to degrade her image before the polls. While the EC regulations against false allegations are very clear, it remains to be seen if the Commission will take disciplinary action against Jagan. If the CM does get reprimanded, then the authenticity of his campaign could take a dip.
