Hearing Of Jagan’s Cases Begins In ED Spl Court

Published by

In the wake of the Supreme Court issuing guidelines that cases filed against elected representatives and former people’s representatives should be heard on a daily basis, the hearing of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s illegal assets case has begun in the Enforcement Directorate special court on Thursday. Actually, Jagan’s cases were scheduled to come up for hearing on October 13. However, respective courts have pushed forward the dates of cases filed against political leaders.

In 2016, the ED filed a case on allocation of land at Jadcharla in Mahbubnagar district to pharma firms, Aurobindo and Hetero under ‘quid pro quo’. In connection with the case, Jagathi Publications advocate G. Ashok Reddy presented his arguments in the ED special court.

Ashok Reddy informed the ED court that all the ED cases were currently in the CBI special court and that he had filed a petition urging the High Court to transfer even this case to the CBI special court. He said that the petition filed by him will come up for hearing on October 20.

Following this reply, ED special court sessions judge N. Tukaramji adjourned the hearing to October 20.

Further, the judges reportedly requested the High Court to conduct hearings through video conferencing as they cannot attend the court in person, putting their life at risk during the Corona crisis.

With the court informing the concerned people about the cases coming up for hearing on Thursday, the accused in different cases attended the courts along with their advocates. However, the court allowed only the advocates of both the parties in each case into the court hall.

Now, it has to be seen how fast cases against Jagan would be resolved, as it would have an impact on the political atmosphere both in the state and at the national-level.
