One of the many reasons behind BRS’s defeat in the 2023 assembly elections is believed to be the failed name change from TRS to BRS. After Telangana Rashtra Samithi became Bharatha Rashtra Samithi, there was a sharp decline in Telangana natives owning the political outfit, it is heard. The name change was in accordance with KCR’s national political dreams, but what it essentially did was destroy the party’s regional feeling in Telangana.
Now that the damage has been done, measures are said to be taken to resurrect the party. In a major personnel change, BRS could be returning back to its household name, TRS very soon. Originally, this name change was supposed to happen after the defeat in the assembly polls itself, but KCR hesitantly held back momentarily with the Lok Sabha elections fast approaching.
But there is increased pressure from BRS seniors and supporters to bring back the old name of TRS and it is only a matter of time before this happens. BRS senior Errabelli Dayakar Rao confirmed that BRS could be renamed anytime after the Lok Sabha election. While KCR might have his national political dreams, it can’t come at the cost of his party losing ground in Telangana, so he virtually has no other option but to bring back the TRS name.
