The BJP is playing a safe game in Andhra Pradesh. As part of the tripartite alliance, the BJP was allocated 10 Assembly seats and 6 MP seats. However, neither the party central leadership nor the state leaders are showing any interest in coming onto the streets for campaigning, except for Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally addressing a public meeting in Chilakaluripet a month ago.
Many of the BJP candidates contesting the elections this time quit the TDP and joined the BJP. In 2014, the TDP won the elections due to its alliance with the BJP and Jana Sena. In 2019, the TDP contested the elections alone and suffered a humiliating defeat. In such a situation, the TDP was forced to have a tie-up with the BJP.
On the other hand, since 2019, the Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YCP government had been supporting the BJP in many issues. This makes it clear that irrespective of the party, Jagan Mohan Reddy or TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu or JSP boss Pawan Kalyan would support the BJP.
The national party is completely confident that whoever wins the 2024 elections, the party would definitely be of support to the BJP.
So, it is playing a safe game without entering into the political arena in Andhra Pradesh.
