Actress-turned-politician Vijayasanthi is failing to get due recognition in any of the political parties for reasons better known to her than others. The general elections are round the corner and the Congress, the party with which she is associated currently, is in power in Telangana but she is absent from the political scene.
Popularly known as Ramulamma, she was a firebrand in politics in the past. Having started off her political career by joining the BJP, she floated Talli Telangana party with an aim to realize separate Telangana. Later, she merged her party with the Telangana Rashtra Samiti as the party’s ideology matched with that of her political outfit.
In 2009, she won as the MP from Medak. In 2014, she quit TRS and joined the Congress. She contested the elections as the MP from Medak for a second time in that year but was defeated.
In 2020, she joined the BJP. In 2023, she returned to the Congress but could not get due recognition for her services from any of the political party, say political analysts.
At present, she is in the Congress which is in power in Telangana. Further, she also took charge as the chief co-ordinator of the Congress Campaigning Committee and as the convener of the Planning Committee but is out of public glare even when the general elections are fast approaching.
It is learnt that she aspired to contest as an MP from Medak this time too but the Congress did not issue the ticket. Political observers anticipated her to actively take part in the electioneering but she was not seen anywhere at the recent Jana Jatara meeting addressed by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. It is learnt that the organisers completely forgot to invite her. There is information that Vijayasanthi is ready to take up electioneering if asked by any of the party leaders. It has to be seen if the Congress leadership would utilize her services in the run up to the general elections.
