The Macherla assembly constituency is one of the key segments in the Palnadu area and this segment has historically been with the Congress party, and more so, with the Pinnelli family. The Pinnelli family has been in a position of power here since 2004.
The local domination of the Pinnelli family started in 2004 when Pinnelli Lakshma Reddy contested and won by a record 30K votes margin. Then, Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy debuted in the 2009 election(Congress) and he has won 4 elections here(including the 2012 by-election).
But the local trend in this year’s election season is that two factors are working against Pinnelli here. While one is the anti-incumbency against the YSR Congress government, the other is the existing vacuum due to the anti-incumbency against Pinnelli locally. Both factors are likely to work against Pinnelli Ramakrishna this time.
In a calculated move, TDP fielded senior most leader Julakanti Brahmananda Reddy here in this year’s election and he is being seen as a local favorite. Though Pinnelli has a mass image, the existing anti-incumbency and the positive public perception of soft-natured Brahmananda Reddy are likely to play a role. But beating Pinnelli’s domination is going to be a tough task in its own capacity. Can TDP break Pinnelli and YCP domination in Macherla which has been prevalent since 2004?
