BRS president KCR used to pride himself by saying his party pays top respect to revolutionaries and separation leaders. But the failure to walk the talk has come back to haunt KCR after the gutting defeat in the recent assembly elections.
In a major shocker and setback to BRS, Shankaramma, the mother of renowned Telangana martyr Srikanth Chari who set himself ablaze for the Telangana movement, has left BRS and joined Congress.
While intellectuals like Professor Kodandaram have already left BRS for not paying enough respect to revolutionaries, the departure of the likes of Shankaramma could deplete BRS’s public image further. Osmania students who once actively behind KCR, turned utter enemies to BRS and KCR. Many other Telangana Udyamakarulu too left BRS
In reality, Shankaramma had been displeased with BRS for a long time now. She hoped to get Bhuvanagiri BRS MP ticket but this wasn’t delivered by the party. This happened after KCR had earlier promised her an MLC post and later went back on his word. Vexed by this, Shankaramma has left BRS and joined Congress where she is likely to get a nominated post.
While BRS is already projected to win not more the 1-2 seats in the MP election, the departure of Shankaramma doesn’t help the cause either.
