TD leader Pattabhi said that the agitation by the farmers in the Capital region demanding that Amaravati should be the lone capital for Andhra Pradesh was a historic one. He said that there was no evidence that farmers had led such a movement for a genuine cause in the entire country, since Independence.
The TDP leader reached Tulluru village in the capital region to express solidarity with the farmers who had been agitating for the last 300 days, since December 2019.
He asserted that the farmers had been protesting peacefully, following Gandhi’s principle of non-violence. “Though Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s residence is just a few kilometres away from the protest camp, he never had bothered to visit the protesters. Instead, he has been using police force to suppress the agitation,” he said. He lauded the women farmers and women representatives of NGOs for leading the agitation in the tumultuous situation.
“Jagan took up ‘Odarpu Yatra’ before the elections but now, he is back-stabbing the voters who had given him the ‘one chance’ he had asked for during his walkathon,” he reminded. Over 80 Capital farmers lost their lives in the last 300 days, he said.
Amaravati as referendum
Referring to minister Botsa Satyanarayana’s remarks that the Amaravati agitation was a ‘flop show’ , Pattabhi threw down a gauntlet at the YCP MLAs to resign to their posts and go for elections with Amaravati as the referendum. “The YCP leaders are cowards who can only give statements sitting i their palatial bungalows. They do not have the guts to face the public. Your attacks will not deter the Amaravati farmers.
“Now, there is no way that Jagan can shift the capital from Amaravati. TDP national general secretary Lokesh said that the YCP government cannot move the capital away at least by an inch from Amaravati and it is true. This agitation by farmers will definitely be a success,” he predicted.
Andhra Pradesh will have only one capital, Amaravati. “Oka rasthram-oka rajadhani” slogan raised by the farmers will definitely be a reality, he said.
The TDP leader also reminded that when the foundation stone was laid for the construction of capital at Amaravati by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, there were no protests led by the people either in Rayalaseema or North Andhra. “They would have protested if they were against the location of the capital at Amaravati,” he pointed out.
Unilateral decisions
Further, he said that it was Jagan who was taking unilateral decisions about the capital without collecting opinion of the public. “Did he consult any experts? On one fine day, he just made an announcement in the Assembly as though he had a dream the previous night. Then he constituted Boston Committee,” he reminded.
Pattabhi also questioned why did Jagan agree to Amaravati as the capital when the proposal was made in the Assembly during the TDP regime.
He challenged the CM to visit Amaravati without police protection and answer the questions being raised by the women farmers in the Capital region. “Jagan claims that he has the support of 151 MLAs, then why should he fear the people,” he questioned.
On the YCP leaders abusing the judiciary and judges, Pattabhi said that Jagan was just playing a drama to gain people’s sympathy, once he gets arrested in connection with the disproportionate assets case.
