Senior stateswoman, Vijayashanthi has been with every major political party in Telangana. After starting her career with Thalli Telangana party in 2005, she merged the same in TRS, and she won as an MP from TRS and later quit the KCR party before joining Congress in 2014. Then again she quit Congress and rejoined BJP in 2020. Finally, in 2023, she quit BJP and rejoined the Congress before the assembly elections.
Coming to the point now, Vijayashanthi has done something very interesting as she come to defend BRS from a verbal attack from BJP central bigwig Kishan Reddy.
Reacting to a comment from Kishan Reddy where he said BRS will not exist in Telangana, Vijayashanthi came to KCR’s defense. “Kishan Reddy’s comment that BRS will cease to exist is not reasonable. Regional parties are a mouthpiece for the public and they can’t be eliminated. We have seen MGR, NTR, Ramakrishna Hegde, Jayalalithaa, and KCR who made their voices heard through regional parties. It appears that the Congress party has better understood and values of regional parties than BJP.”
The bare fact is that BRS is the common counterpart of both BJP and Congress in Telangana. So, when BJP assaults BRS, there is no reason for Congress to come to the rescue. However, Vijayashanthi has taken the occasion to contradict Kishan Reddy’s comment on BRS and has come to KCR’s defense.
Vijayashanthi’s retort has led to social media rumors that she might not be comfortable in Congress and might be struggling with the lack of visibility she is getting there so she could be throwing feelers of coming back to BRS. For now, we can’t read too much into Vijayashanthi’s comment, but if she really plans to come back to BRS, it would be another addition to the already long list of her political defections.
