The 10-year deadline for Hyderabad to be the common capital of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will end in a day and so will the people’s bonding with the city. Tomorrow, On June 02, 2024, Hyderabad will cease to be the joint capital for Andhra Pradesh and hence, all the offices are being shifted to its home state.
As per the AP Bifurcation Act, Hyderabad was supposed to be the joint capital for 10 years from 2014. However, the then Chief Minister N. Chandrbabu Naidu ensured that many of the AP government offices situated in Hyderabad were relocated to Andhra Pradesh within a year of passing the Act.
Almost 90 per cent of the AP government offices were moved to Amaravati and other towns in the state by 2016. However, 10 per cent of the offices still have been continuing functioning from Hyderabad which many citizens in AP might not be aware.
The last office to be shifted to Andhra Pradesh from Telangana is that of the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC). Just a week before the June 02 deadline this year, the office has been shifted to Kurnool following notice from the Telangana government to vacate all the buildings.
Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy also issued orders that the APERC office be shifted to Kurnool, which he had designated as the Judiciary Capital of Andhra Pradesh.
