An important phase of Andhra Pradesh polls is set to unfold today with the arrival of the exit polls. We will see a flurry of exit polls starting from 5:30 PM today and given the anticipation on the poll result, the Telugu population globally will keep a close on the exit poll results.
As we wait for the clock to strike 5:30 PM, here’s a look back at what the leading exit poll agencies told in 2019 and what turned out to be the actual result.
Coming to the 2019 AP exit polls(assembly), India Today projected 37-40 for TDP and 130-135 for YCP. INSS Media gave 118 for TDP and 52 for YCP. People’s Pulse gave 59 for TDP and 112 for YCP. CPS projected 37-40 for TDP and gave 133-135 for YCP.
As for the parliamentary projection, Times Now – VMR gave 18 for YCP and 7 for TDP while India Today Axis gave 18-20 for YCP and 2-6 for TDP. CNN News 18 projected 13-14 for YCP and 10-12 for TDP. Today’s Chanakya was wildly inaccurate as they gave 8 for YCP and 17 for TDP. Republic-C Voter gave 11 for YCP and 14 for TDP.
The end result is that YSR Congress ended up winning 151 assembly seats and 22 MP seats, a feat that no exit poll agency could grasp correctly. This was a historic win. TDP was confined to 23 MLA seats and 3 MP seats while JSP won a single MLA seat. Now, the clock is ticking for the arrival of the 2024 exit polls which are just hours from now.
