The Failure Case Of BJP In Sikkim

As the popular saying goes, there are no murders in politics and there will only be suicides. A political party can’t directly dissipate another party, but it can certainly implode due to its own political failures and commit political suicide. In one such case, BJP faced a harrowing defeat in Sikkim.

BJP used the wicked tactic of luring other party MLAs to gain prominence in Sikkim and this backfired so badly that the saffron party is left with literally nothing now.

Diving deep, BJP earlier had 2 MLAs on its side in Sikkim. The saffron party then lured 10 of the MLAs belonging to SDF in order to give the ruling party SKM a tough fight in the election.

BJP’s plan was to lure SDF’s MLAs and become the second largest party in Sikkim and then trouble the ruling party, SKM. This was the party’s strategy to win the 2024 Sikkim assembly elections which were held on April 19.

While BJP was successful in becoming the second largest party by having 12 MLAs(10 joined from SDF), their main goal of troubling the ruling party SKM was a disaster.

In the Sikkim assembly result that was announced yesterday, BJP ended up winning zero seats while the ruling SKM won 31 out of the 32 seats. SDF won a single seat while BJP was confined to 0. It was very clear that people of Sikkim taught BJP a very important lesson that their power game politics aren’t welcome there.

As a result of their efforts to storm to power in an undemocratic manner, BJP ended up losing even the 2 MLAs they had in their side and drew a blank in the Sikkim assembly elections. This perhaps propelled the Sikkim voters to be more in favor of the ruling SKM outfit.

This failure case of BJP is a lesson to other big parties that deploy such tactics in political warfare.
