The people of Andhra Pradesh are eagerly awaiting the results of the Eluru constituency election, which is expected to be a crucial indicator of the power shift in the state, sentimentally. The election is being closely watched by political stalwarts and ordinary activists alike, as it has become a norm for the party that wins the most seats to take power.
The historical pattern of election results in the United West Godavari has shown that the party that wins the most seats takes power. In 2004, the Congress won 12 out of 16 seats from West Godavari (united), and in 2009, they won 9 out of 15 seats. In 2014, the TDP won all 15 seats, and in 2019, YSRCP won 13 out of 15 seats. This trend has been consistent in the last four general elections. And whichever party wins Eluru in this context is likely to form the government.
While sitting MLA from YSRCP, Alla Nani contested here in Eluru-town, former MLA Badeti Bujji contested on a TDP ticket here. Both parties are throwing challenges, saying that their party has more seats. A bet of crores of rupees has been made on the same issue. The election is being held for a total of 14 seats, 7 seats in Eluru district and 7 seats in West Godavari district, after the re-partitioning of districts.
