Nara Lokesh had the worst possible start to his electoral career with the defeat from Mangalagiri in the 2019 election. This shocking defeat bemused TDP cadres and a few even raised on Lokesh’s public connect. However, Lokesh never reacted to this detrimental talk and instead worked from the grassroots level.
Despite the defeat in Mangalagiri, Lokesh didn’t take the safer option of going to some other safe constituency. He instead stayed back and connected with the locals and made them comprehend what he would do to the people of Mangalagiri. He connected with the masses here and prepared his ground.
In the end, Lokesh, who lost from Mangalagiri in 2019 by a margin of 5K votes has now won the same seat by a margin of 91K+ votes. His majority here has crossed the majority of true blue mass leader YS Jagan’s majority of 90K+ in Pulivendula in 2019.
While YCP constantly underestimated Lokesh and was in denial about his Yuvagalam Yatra, Lokesh operated in the shadows and calmly connected with the common folk. He was never vocal about proving himself to others and instead opted to make his work talk for himself.
Lokesh devised his strategy in such a way that he didn’t just set right his prospects in Mangalagiri, he even connected with the masses across AP through Yuvagalam. Apart from that, he was even looking after the cadre-building exercise in TDP, a role which he took up prior to the 2019 election itself.
It appeared that Jagan was constantly misinformed about the impact Lokesh was consistently packing, and before he realized it, Lokesh silently delivered a killer blow. Today, TDP cadres are accrediting Lokesh for his good work over the last 5 years and the electoral mandate is also so very clear that Lokesh is the next mass leader of AP. The huge win from Mangalagiri and the effective Yuvagalam have laid the foundation for Lokesh’s turnover.
A noted political observer commented that even YCP can’t deny Lokesh’s mass leader tag as he efficiently worked up TDP to 135 seats and in the process YCP slipped to a mere 11. This is the hard fact that YCP has to come to terms with whether they like it or not, he remarked.
