Unexpected- BJP Lost In Ayodhya!

The Loksabha election results came as a huge surprise because the BJP managed to cross the magic figure only with the support of its allies with a barest margin.

This is quite unexpected as majority of the exit polls predicted that BJP would form the government with its tally alone. The biggest setback to the saffron came in the form of Uttar Pradesh where he party suffered humiliation with only 33 seats out of the 80 Loksbha constituencies.

What is more shocking is that the BJP failed to win the mandate of the people in Ayodhya where the prestigious Ram Temple is located. Ayodhya town falls under the Faizabad constituency where it faced a severe defeat in the hand of Samajwadi Party.

This is really a painful and strange outcome for the BJP because the Ram Lalla Pran Pratistha was held in a magnificent manner in January this year in Ayodhya.

SP candidate Awadhesh Prasad defeated BJP nominee Lallu Singh by 54567 votes in Faizabad according to the ECI. The elections were held in the first phase and the voter turn out was 59 %. In 2014 and 2019, BJP won this seat with a decisive margin.

As the Ram Temple launch received a thunderous response, everyone expected that the BJP would canter home in these elections. Unfortunately, the results came as a huge shock for the ruling party.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also campaigned extensively in Ayodhya before elections in a bid to continue the track record. The BJP claimed that the consecration of Ram Temple would tilt the scales in its favour.

But, the SP came up with a smart ploy and fielded a dalit candidate as there is a sizeable population of his community. This turned out to be the deciding factor.

Whatever may be the reasons, losing the Ayodhya seat can be perceived as a huge embarrassment for the BJP because it coined the slogan ‘Jo Ram ko Laye Hain, Hum Unko Layenge” (we will bring back to power those who have brought Lord Rama home) in the Lok Sabha polls.
