AP’s Highest Majority Against ‘Kodi Guddu’ Minister

Published by

Gudivada Amarnath, who served as IT and Industries Sector minister in YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s cabinet, received the biggest humiliation of all the YSRCP ministers because he was defeated by a margin of 95,000 votes which is the highest majority for an MLA in the history of Andhra Pradesh.

Though Amarnath won the 2019 elections from Anakapalle segment and served as IT minister for the state, YS Jagan initially denied ticket in the 2024 elections. In the last minute, he was pitched against TDP’s Palla Srinivas from Gajuwaka constituency. But, Amarnath didn’t even give even a little competition as the TDP candidate was in the lead from the very first round.

By the end of all rounds, Palla Srinivas secured a thumping majority of 95235 votes against Amarnath and set up a record in the state in terms of biggest margin for an MLA seat. While the TDP secures 1,57,703 votes, YSRCP managed only 62,468 votes.

As an IT minister, Amarnath’s performance during the previous government was very dismal. He often made headlines for making derogatory remarks on Pawan Kalyan’s personal life in the media. He received severe backlash from the public when he gave a ridiculous ‘ Kodi Guddu’ reply to a journalist when he was asked about the investments in the state after Jagan Mohan Reddy attended the Davos investment summit. From then, he was labelled as ‘Kodi Guddu’ minister by his opponents.

Issues like privatization of Vizag steel plant, infighting within the party leaders and poor governance in the last five years contributed to Amarnath’s embarrassing debacle in these elections.
