Jagan Defeat – The Pain Of Amaravati Farmers

Published by

YS Jagan Mohan Reddy campaigned aggressively for his party, with the tag lines “Siddham” and “Why not 175?” to retain power in Andhra Pradesh. But, the people of AP decided to bring him down.

The YSRCP party tasted victory in only 11 out of the 175 constituencies where they contested. TDP benefited from the alliance they formed with BJP and Janasena. Jagan already submitted his resignation yesterday and also accepted the defeat in a press conference.

Interestingly, the first step for Jagan’s defeat began when he decided to change the capital of the state.

Chandrababu Naidu wanted to develop the Amaravati region as the capital city of the state, but when Jagan took over the government, he decided to oppose this.

It has resulted in the farmers of Amaravati protesting against the decision of the government, as many of them lost their lands to build the capital city. The farmers protested on the roads with cans of pesticides and have erred in moving the Secretariat and High Court from the already all-encompassing Amaravati. All of them have demanded that the entire administration of government stay where it is.

Protests have been held every day in every village of the capital city region since 2019, demanding that the State government revoke its three-capitals decision and stick to Amaravati as the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh.

In between they do padayatras, they faced huge resistance from local YSRCP leaders and AP Police. Many aged farmers, women actively participated in the agitation and the pain of Amaravati farmers clearly visible to the world.

But, Jagan’s government decided to decentralize the development and came up with the 3-capital proposal. Meanwhile, his welfare schemes also failed to bring in the necessary votes for him in the current polls.

All in all, the Amaravati farmers’ issue did more than enough damage to Jagan’s administration.
