Meet India’s Youngest Woman MP

The BJP-led NDA emerged victorious in the just concluded Lok Sabha polls. The prime opposition INDIA bloc also gave a stiff competition to the NDA.

In the midst of this, the youngest Dalit MP Sanjana Jatav has caught the attention of the electorate.

Twentyfive-year-old Jatav has won from Bharatpur Lok Sabha seat in Rajasthan on a Congress ticket. She won with a majority of 51,983 votes against BJP candidate Ram Swaroop Kohli.

Jatav, belonging to Dalit community, is one among the four youngest MPs in the 18th Lok Sabha. Having completed her graduation from Maharaja Surajmal Brij University in 2019, she married Kaptan Singh working as a police constable in Rajasthan.

They are gifted with two children and in the affidavit submitted to the ECI, she stated the value of her property at Rs 23 lakh and that her debts amounted to Rs 7 lakh.

Jatav was seen dancing to a Rajasthani folk song celebrating her victory. She thanked the electorate in her constituency to their faith in her.

In 2023 Assembly polls, Jatav had contested from Alwar’s Kathumar seat where she lost by a thin margin of 409 votes to BJP’s Ramesh Khinchi.

Jatav helped the Congress, which failed to open account during the 2019 elections, by registering a victory in 2024 general polls.

Of the total 25 MP seats in Rajasthan, the BJP won 14, Congress eight, CPI (Marxist), Rashtriya Lok Tantrik Party (RLP), Bharatiya Akhil Congress (BAC) won one seat each.
