AP CM Jagan’s open war on a Supreme Court justice and some judges in a High Court has become a national talking point. While it is first of its kind in Indian democracy that the Chief Minister of a state has openly complained against a senior judge of the Supreme Court (who is the front-runner for the post of Chief Justice of India) and leveled serious accusations in his letter to CJI, this war between a CM and a senior judge turned out to be war between the head of a state and head of judiciary.
The whole issue has raised the debate of whether a CM could complain against a sitting judge of Supreme Court and make such complain public. There is a severe criticism against YS Jagan over overstepping “constitutional process” . It is widely alleged that Jagan has “demeaned” the judiciary by revealing the complain letter. Now, all eyes are on the implications of CM Jagan’s strong-worded letter.
In this backdrop, two advocates GS Mani and Pradeep Kumar Yadav have filed a petition in the Supreme Court. The said advocates sought “dismissal” of YS Jaganmohan Reddy as AP CM. Taking the note of Jagan’s letter to NV Ramana seriously, the said lawyers have also mentioned about Jagan’s criminal cases in their petition to the Apex court. The lawyers mentioned that there are about 30 criminal cases pending against AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy including the money-laundering case.
All eyes are now on where this fight between the constitutional functionaries would end in the coming days. It needs to be seen how the CJI responds to AP CM Jagan’s letter.
