Congress’s main man Rahul Gandhi had extremely positive results in both the Lok Sabha seats he contested in the 2024 general election. He won both Rae Bareli and Wayanad by astounding majorities. But as is the regulation, a candidate who wins two segments must hold only one segment and quit the other. Rahul Gandhi too had this tough choice to make.
Interestingly, Rahul has decided to vacate the Wayanad seat and in turn keep ahold of the Rae Bareli seat, which was famously won by Indira Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi in the past.
But the voters of Wayanad need not feel bad that Rahul is vacating this constituency as the latest updates imply that Rahul’s sister Priyanka Gandhi is arriving here. Reportedly, Priyanka would be contesting from Wayanad in the by-election that would be necessitated by Rahul’s resignation.
The Gandhi family has thus made sure that the trust of Wayanad voters isn’t wasted as Priyanka is replacing Rahul here. As it looks, a win for Priyanka here seems like a mere formality as Wayanad voters are fiercely backing Congress here.
