Whenever there is a change in the guard, the first thing the new government does is to rename the existing schemes, government buildings, airports, universities etc. This is quite a norm anywhere in the country. Even the YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh also did the same thing when they came to power in 2019. They renamed NTR Health University to YSR Health University and also launched many schemes with the then CM Jagan’s name.
In no time, the latest government has rechristened the existing schemes and removed ‘Jagananna’ name from them. Interestingly, they didn’t come up with Chandrababu or NTR’s names for all these schemes. They renamed ‘Jagananna Vidya Deevena’ and ‘Jagananna Vasathi Deevena’ as Post Matric Scholarships. They changed ‘Jagananna Videshi Vidya Deevena’ to Ambedkar Overseas Vidya Nidhi.
YSR Kalyana Masthu, which was a rehash of TDP’s scheme during 2014-19, is now again renamed as Chandranna Pelli Kanuka. YSR Vidyonnathi is changed to NTR Vidyonnathi and Jagananna Civil Services Protasakam to Incentives for Civil Services exams.
As per the instructions of Social welfare minister Dola Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy, the government has released a GO ordering the change of names with immediate effect. The GO said this is done for effective and easy access to the public. It further said that a detailed review and modification of the provisions of the schemes will be there in the due course.
Reports further suggest that the government has ordered to immediately stop the supply of passbooks and beneficiary cards featuring the party symbols, colours and pictures of Jagan.
It looks like the new dispensation in Andhra Pradesh is in the thick of things immediately after the announcement of cabinet portfolios by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu. All key ministers are assuming charge of their respective ministries one by one and taking stock of the situation in the departments concerned. Naidu clearly instructed all his ministers not to be complacent over the massive victory and asked them to work efficiently.
