The 72nd meeting of the Network Planning Group (NPG) held in New Delhi focused on evaluating three significant infrastructure projects, one each from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Ministry of Railways (MoR), Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).

Under the MoR, one project in Andhra Pradesh was evaluated. The Gudur-Renigunta third rail line in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, involves 83.17 km line aimed at enhancing the capacity of the existing double line. The estimated cost of the project has been pegged at Rs 884 crore and it will improve passenger and cargo movement efficiency. The project requires 36.58 hectares of land.

The upgradation of the infrastructure relating to the project includes new bridges, extended underpasses, and advanced signaling systems, which would boost the economic activity in the region.

With the TDP coming to power in Andhra Pradesh, there are expectations that the necessary land acquisition and other resources would be pooled at a faster pace for grounding the project at the earliest.

The other two projects include National Highway in Jammu and Kashmir of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and Pune Metro Line Extension in Maharashtra of the Minstry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).

All the three projects are expected to play vital role in nation building and integrating various modes of transport, contributing to the development of the respective regions.
