The last two weeks have been a dream ride for the TDP-JSP-BJP alliance in Andhra Pradesh as they stormed to power in the most empathic way possible. Especially, BJP which drew a blank in the MLA and MP election in 2019 has managed to win 8 MLA seats and 3 MP seats this year, thanks to the alliance.
But here is the case of one BJP MP who is seemingly causing unrest amongst the alliance with his unnecessarily provocative verbal assaults. The MP in question is Srinivas Varma who won from Narsapuram on BJP ticket.
Speaking at a BJP meeting, Varma said “Even after I got the MP ticket, certain people told I wouldn’t hold the ticket till the end and someone else would replace me. Yellow media wrote I am fit for nothing and I will get replaced by some other candidate. But I proved them wrong and won Narsapuram.”
While Srinivas Varma might have had his reasons to feel in a certain way, making this public comment after the alliance registered an emphatic win serves no purpose. Blaming yellow media and certain people even after he won Narsapuram and the alliance swept AP serves no purpose. If anything, it tarnishes the harmony and creates unrest amongst the triangular alliance. When Srinivas varma contested as MP from Narasapuram in 2009, he secured only 11,000 votes, where as in 2024 he secured 7 lakh votes. This all because of the strong hold of TDP and Janasena in Narasapuram, says political analysts.
What can be noted is that Srinivas Varma is a dear compatriot of AP BJP veteran Somu Veerraju who is regarded as the pioneer of the YCP-affiliated wing in AP BJP.
But for whatever reason, Srinivas Varma must not have made such comment which could inflict harm on the alliance, as a unit. Targeting your own people after winning the election is not a smart move. AP BJP must be careful with such actions in the future as such small incidents snowball later and lead to consequences, commented a well-wisher of the TDP+ alliance.
