Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad, known to be a supporter of former CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, has a word of praise for TDP boss and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. He appreciated Naidu for restoring NTR’s name to the Health University in the state. Yarlagadda said that it is a good decision and a welcoming precedent.
It may be recalled that during the YCP rule, former CM Jagan Mohan Reddy changed the NTR Health University in Vijayawada as YSR Health University, despite opposition from the health experts and others.
With the TDP clinching power, the old name has been restored for the university.
In the past, Yarlagadda was close to former CM late NT Rama Rao and was even nominated as Rajya Sabha member. He even worked as the president of the Official Language Association in the state.
Later, he shifted allegiance to YSR and since then, continued criticizing Naidu. As time passed by, the rift increased. During YSR rule, he was appointed as the chairman of the Hindi Language Association, which made Yarlagadda get much closer to YSR family. Then he even got close to Jagan. After Jagan assumed office in 2019, he again headed the Telugu Language Association.
From then, he had been vocally supporting Jagan and even supported the three-capital formula. Jagan’s proposal to introduce English medium teaching in government schools drew much criticism from various quarters and then Yarlagadda faced a very tough time defending Jagan’s decision. Unable to withstand the grilling by educationists, he even quit the post. However, he continued to remain loyal to Jagan.
But a word of praise from the rivals would mean a lot to the ruling TDP.
