YCP boss and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has received a fresh jolt from the TDP alliance, even before he could completely come to terms with the ridiculous defeat of his party in the just concluded Assembly elections. Naidu’s government proved that ‘welfare’ is not the patent of the YCP alone.
In a bid to find some solace after the unsettling results, Jagan travelled to Pulivendula. He even went to Bengaluru but could not stay there for long and returned to Tadepalli residence on July 1.
Upon reaching the state, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu gave him a big shock by releasing funds towards the hiked pensions and also the arrears. Naidu did not stop releasing Rs 4,000 crore but even distributed the same to a few beneficiaries.
This was in retaliation to Jagan’s remarks that the TDP would just make promises of hiking the pension amount but would not be able to fulfil it. During the hustings, Jagan satirically said that Naidu would even promise to give 1 kilo gold to each household.
On the top of it, Naidu also ensured that 96% of the beneficiaries received the pensions by 10 pm on that day, which is a very big feat. Without the involvement of volunteers, the Secretariat staff were pressed into service for distribution of pensions and Naidu monitored the programme on an hourly-basis.
Thereby, Naidu proved that pensions could be distributed going house-to-house even without the involvement of volunteers.
It is just 18 days that Naidu’s government has taken charge and 26 days that the election results were declared.
The timely distribution of pensions to the needy won praise from all sections of people in the society.
