All Chances For AP To Grab Tesla!

Published by

If the ongoing reports in various media outlets are to be believed, Andhra Pradesh might soon get a $ 30 bn car manufacturing plant in one of its Rayalaseema districts. This comes in the aftermath of the Union government’s newly formulated policy to attract Electric Vehicles ( EVs).

As per these reports, EV behemoth Tesla owned by US-based entrepreneur and billionaire Elon Musk is in plans to launch the first manufacturing unit in India. So, the current dispensation in Andhra Pradesh under Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is going all-out and putting all its efforts and influence at the Centre to bring this plant to one of the backward districts in Rayalaseema region.

Actually, the plan to invite Musk’s Tesla to open its first unit in Andhra Pradesh was proposed way back during 2014-2019 when Naidu was the then Chief Minister of the state. However, the initiative didn’t materialize beyond proposal due to various factors. Later, the change in the government when Jagan Mohan Reddy retained power in 2019 doomed the plans due his anti-development policies and not-so-industry-friendly conditions.

During the election campaign in the run-up to 2024 assembly elections, Nara Lokesh, the current IT and HRD minister, promised to revive the plans to bring Tesla to Andhra Pradesh if voted to power again. With Naidu back at the helm of affairs, the ambitious plans to bring such a prestigious company to the state are back in action.

Just like how Kia Motors, a car manufacturing unit established in Anantapur in 2017, turned out to be a big success by providing huge fillip to job creation in the backward region and increased the brand value of the state all over the globe, Naidu and his government wants to repeat the same with Tesla.

Moreover, Naidu has got full support from Narendra Modi’s NDA government at the centre this time. With the help and cooperation of the central government, convincing the stakeholders of Tesla to prefer Andhra Pradesh over other states won’t be a improbable idea for some one like Naidu who is a master is pulling strings to seal such deals. Let’s wait and see if this buzz turns out to be a reality or not.
