Over the past decade, BRS has done everything in its power to eradicate Congress in Telangana. In 2014, BRS managed to poach 7 out of Congress’s 21 MLAs, despite holding a clear majority of 63 seats in the assembly. The situation worsened in 2018 when BRS won 88 seats but still managed to lure enough Congress MLAs to merge the Congress legislative party with BRS in the assembly.
Today, the same BRS, represented by KTR, commented on the hypocrisy and political misrule being perpetrated by Congress. He criticized Revanth and Rahul Gandhi for poaching BRS MLAs and orchestrating these defections.
KTR pointed out that while it is within constitutional rights to secure 2-3 MLAs from other parties, Congress crossed the line by poaching 7 BRS MLAs and continues to seek more.
Having poached 7 Congress MLAs in 2014 and subsequently merged the Congress legislative party in 2018, the same BRS condemning the latest defections from BRS to Congress after losing power is leaving many amused.
A seasoned political observer shared his opinion with Gulte, stating that Revanth Reddy is playing the same game KCR played while in power and is getting him to taste his own medicine. He pointed out that KTR and KCR actively poached Congress MLAs while in power, so they do not have the moral high ground to condemn Congress’s modus operandi now.
However, KTR appears determined to halt the defections, as he announced plans to file a case in the Supreme Court to disqualify the defecting MLAs.
