Not many might realize this, but the IT ministry is one of the most important portfolios in a state cabinet. The person holding the IT ministry post will be responsible for bringing in multiple investments to the state and thus contribute to the growth model.
In the last tenure, AP had Gudivada Amarnath as the IT minister. He was more popular as Kodi Guddu minister of AP. While the AP youth was boiling over the lack of employment opportunities in the state, there was no consolidated effort from Amarnath to improve the situation.
On top of that, he partook in an interview to justify his decision to send back the Lulu Mall from Vizag, citing the reason that they asked prime land in Vizag to set up their mega mall which would in turn provide many employment opportunities.
Now, AP has an intensely hardworking IT minister in the form of Nara Lokesh who is leaving his mark in just a month.
Yesterday, when Karnataka announced employment reservation for locals, tech giant Nasscom announced its plan to explore other avenues by leaving Karnataka.
This is when Lokesh swooped in and mentioned “We will offer you best-in-class facilities, uninterrupted power, infrastructure and the most suitable skilled talent for your IT enterprise with no restrictions from the Government.” He proactively encouraged the company to set up shop in AP.
This is the kind of proactiveness that is needed from an IT minister to attract companies. From a minister who used to hold interviews to justify sending out companies, AP has now gone to an IT minister who is working around the clock to attract new investments.
