The flash floods in Hyderabad not only moved the film stars, who donated generously, but even heads of other states. The Chief Ministers of three states – Tamil Nadu, Delhi and West Bengal, donated to the Telangana government to take up the relief activities in the flood-affected areas in the state.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a donation of Rs 15 crore for relief works in Telangana and said that people of Delhi stand with residents of the state.

“Floods have caused havoc in Hyderabad. People of Delhi stand by our brother and sisters in Hyderabad in this hour of crisis. Delhi govt will donate Rs 15 crore to the Govt of Telangana for its relief efforts,” he tweeted.

Over 70 people died in rain-related incidents in the state, minister K.T. Rama Rao said.

KTR said Hyderabad received the second highest recorded rainfall after 1908, which led to inundation of low-lying areas forcing the officials to relocate about 37,000 people to relief camps.

He said that 33 people in GHMC limits and 37 people in districts have lost their lives.

On Saturday, a fresh spell of heavy rains led to flooding in parts of the city, which witnessed one of the worst deluges last week following unprecedented downpour in over a century.

Mamata Banerjee, Palaniswamy extend help

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also announced Rs 2 crore financial assistance to Telangana for relief and rehabilitation works. Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao called her up and thanked her for the gesture.

“We are really sad to learn about the sufferings of the people of Telangana due to unprecedented floods following incessant rains during the last few days. There has been huge loss of life and property in the state. Our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members of those who lost their lives,” Banerjee wrote in a letter to her Telangana counterpart.

She assured Rao that the people of West Bengal stand by the brothers and sisters of Telangana in this hour of crisis. “As a mark of our solidarity and brotherhood with the people of Telangana, the West Bengal Government would like to contribute a token sum of Rs 2 crore to the Telangana Chief Minister’s Relief Fund,” she added.

West Bengal is the third state to announce financial aid to flood-hit Telangana.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E. K. Palaniswami announced Rs 10 crore for relief works in Telangana. He said that the TN government will also be sending blankets and mats as relief material to the affected families.

KCR also spoke to Palaniswamy and Kejriwal over phone and thanked them on behalf of people of Telangana for announcing the financial assistance.

The CM also urged the industrialists, traders, business establishments and others to come forward and extend help to people who suffered due to the floods. He asked them to donate generously to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

According to a preliminary estimate, the loss due to rains and flash floods was pegged at Rs 5,000 crore.
